7 Pieces of Advice Every Beginner Needs to Hear – From the RAW Performance Team
Starting out at the gym can feel intimidating — but it doesn’t have to be. At RAW Performance, we’ve worked with hundreds of people from day one through to incredible transformations.
Whether your goal is strength, fat loss, or just feeling fitter and more confident, the key is to start smart and stay consistent.
We asked each of our trainers for their best piece of advice for beginners — and here’s what they had to say 👇
🏋️ 1. Jon — Embrace the Challenge
“You can’t have change without challenge; embrace the difficulty as that’s where the progress hides.”
Change doesn’t happen in the comfort zone. The key is to lean into the tough sessions — they’re the moments that shape your results.
🧭 2. Ben — Trust the Process
“Don’t rush the journey, learn to trust the process and focus on being 1% better every day. Results will take care of themselves.”
Small, consistent steps create lasting change. Focus on your daily actions — not just the finish line.
🧍 3. Dom — Form First
“Prioritise learning correct form and execution before increasing weight as a safety measure and to create good habits for the future.”
Lifting heavier is great — but only when your technique is right. Solid foundations = long-term progress.
🚪 4. Charlie — Just Walk Through the Door
“The hardest thing is to walk through them doors, and I promise you, no one is going to be watching you or cares what you’ll be doing. Go in and get the results you want!”
Most people are too focused on their own workouts to notice yours. The hardest step is the first one — showing up.
❤️ 5. Jack — Fall in Love With the Process
“Find what you enjoy, fall in love with the process and be as consistent as possible with it all. Be process-focused, not destination-focused, and you’ll have a much better time.”
Enjoying your training is key to sticking with it. Progress feels easier when you love what you’re doing.
🎯 6. Mark — Make It Enjoyable
“Try to make your training & your environment as enjoyable as possible. Once training is enjoyable, consistency and results become much more achievable.”
You don’t have to love every exercise — but enjoying the journey makes staying on track a lot easier.
🧠 7. The RAW Team — You’ve Got This
Every expert was once a beginner. The most important step is starting, asking questions, and showing up consistently. That’s where the magic happens 💥
